SUMMARY:OOI Oral Presentation (Ocean Sciences 2026): Decade-Long Time Series of Biogeochemical and Physical Data from the NSF Ocean Observatories Initiative
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, February 26 | 8:30 – 8:45 AM GMT \nJim Edson\, Lead Principal Investigator of OOI\, will present an overview of more than a decade of biogeochemical and physical ocean data collected by OOI. \nThe U.S. NSF Ocean Observatories Initiative operates and maintains long-term\, research-quality observing arrays that deliver open-access time series data from diverse and challenging ocean environments. Drawing on observations from five global and coastal arrays\, the presentation will highlight how OOI data are being used to investigate ocean circulation\, climate variability\, coastal and biogeochemical processes\, geohazards\, and ecosystem dynamics. The talk will also highlight recent instrumentation advances and the role of OOI’s data systems in supporting discovery\, forecasting\, and ocean stewardship.

SUMMARY:OOIFB Town Hall at AGU 2025
DESCRIPTION:The OOIFB is pleased to announce its Town Hall event at the 2025 American Geophysical Union (AGU) Conference in New Orleans\, LA. This Town Hall\, which will take place on Monday\, December 15\, 2025\, from 1-2pm CST\, is centered around a community discussion on recent research discoveries and the status of Axial Seamount in the Northeast Pacific. Axial Seamount\, an underwater volcano located ~300 miles off the Oregon coast\, is the most active submarine volcano in the NE Pacific and is displaying behavior indicative of an impending eruption. The Ocean Observatories Initiative’s (OOI) Regional Cabled Array\, funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF)\, hosts over 20 multidisciplinary cabled instruments at Axial and provides real-time monitoring\, which will illuminate key processes before\, during\, and after this eruption. Co-registered measurements of earthquakes\, seafloor deformation\, and hydrothermal activity are key to understanding mid-ocean ridges that form the largest mountain chain on Earth. \nFeaturing keynote presentations on the current status of Axial Seamount\, and a community discussion forum\, this Town Hall\, will highlight ongoing research and provide monitoring updates. The OOIFB invites researchers\, students\, educators\, and other stakeholders to attend this event\, engage in discussion\, and learn more about NE Pacific seafloor volcanism and the NSF OOI. Event details are included below. \nEvent questions? Please contact Holly Morin (holly@ooifb.org)
