OOI to Participate in Student Science & Engineering Fair

Change The World flyerThe Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) Program will be participating in an upcoming Science & Engineering Career Fair for middle and high school students in Northern Virginia.

The event, sponsored by Rep. Frank Wolf (VA) and the National Science Foundation, will be held at the Dulles Town Center on Sept. 27-28.  More than 100 scientists and engineers will share interactive demonstrations of the work they do with middle and high school students, their families and teachers.

The OOI’s “Connecting You to the Ocean” Exhibit will give students the opportunity to learn how to collect data in real time from some of the oceans most unexplored and challenging depths. Students also will get a “hands on” look at specialized ocean observing equipment like ocean gliders that “swim” like rockets through the waves collecting scientific data that will be streaming on the Internet around the time they are just beginning their careers.
