Deploying in OOI Areas

It is possible for scientific teams to deploy ocean observing equipment within the OOI arrays if all permits are secured and other requirements met. The OOI, however, has no obligation or authority regarding permitting of any non-OOI project, but we want to help ensure success and maximize synergy of OOI and nearby efforts. To facilitate this, it would be helpful if those planning deployments in OOI areas to provide us with advance notice. With such notice, we can maximize scientific interaction, understand and help mitigate any technical conflicts that might arise (for example, incompatible acoustical measurement or communication systems), and provide information that might help resolve any permitting issues.

For those contemplating a deployment in an OOI area, we ask that you contact the HelpDesk so that we can initiate a mutually beneficial scientific endeavor.
