Opportunities exist for researchers, teachers, and students to participate in one of OOI’s operation and maintenance cruises to the arrays. Researchers and teachers should contact OOI’s HelpDesk to learn of upcoming cruises and to discuss timing, opportunities, available berth space, and the like.

For students, more organized opportunities exist through UNOLS (University-National Oceanographic Laboratory System), which coordinates schedules for university-operated ships, and VISIONS, a University of Washington (UW) sea-going research and discovery course that takes students to the Regional Cabled Array. UNOLS coordinates available berths on OOI research cruises with interested students, who must apply for participation. VISIONS offers UW students credit for amazing hands-on learning experiences at sea.
