Hilary Palevsky
Boston College
Dr. Hilary Palevsky is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Boston College whose research focuses on marine biogeochemistry and the ocean’s role in the global carbon cycle. Her work investigates how biological and physical processes regulate the ocean’s uptake and long-term storage of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Dr. Palevsky makes extensive use of biogeochemical observations from OOI, particularly from the Irminger Sea and Station Papa Arrays, to study carbon cycling and the ocean’s biological carbon pump in high-latitude regions. She has led community efforts to improve the accessibility and reliability of OOI biogeochemical data, including co-leading the development of best-practice guidelines for calibration and quality control of OOI sensor measurements. Through this work, Dr. Palevsky advances understanding of how the ocean influences climate while helping expand the scientific use of OOI data.
