Jupyter Hub Town Hall: March 6, 1 pm ET
Curious about Jupyter Hub, which gives users access to computational environments and resources in their own workspaces on shared resources?
OOI is hosting a virtual town hall on Wednesday March 6, 2024 at 1 pm Eastern, where you can learn how researchers and educators are using OOI’s Jupyter Hub in their research and classrooms. During this one-hour town hall, OOI Data Lead Jeffrey Glatstein, OOIFB Chair and Queens College Assistant Professor Dax Soule, and OOI Data Expert Stace Beaulieu will give hands-on demonstrations of OOI Jupyter Hub. The emphasis will be on practical applications of this important resource, with plenty of time to ask questions.

Live Data Demos at OOI Booth#210
Join OOI data expert Stace Beaulieu at the Ocean Sciences Meeting as she demonstrates how to use Data Explorer to find, compare, and share OOI data. During each session, Stace will use data from a different OOI array to demonstrate the breadth and depth of data available and how easy it is to access, download, and use. She will demo Data Explorer, followed by plenty of time to answer your questions and use this tool to explore data relevant to your research. On Wednesday morning, she’ll demo JupyterHub so you will have another tool to use OOI data in your research.

Four-Part Series on Using Data Explorer
OOI Data Specialist Stace Beaulieu has put together a four part-series demonstrating how to use Data Explorer. In eight minutes or less per session, you can learn how to find and visualize time-series, glider, or profiler data and compare time-series data. The demos can be accessed below, on YouTube, and permanently under Tutorials on this website. Be sure to bookmark the site for future reference. Woods Hole Oceanographic Senior Research Specialist Stace Beaulieu presents a demonstration on how to explore and visualize data for the Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) in Data Explorer, with an emphasis on Quality Assurance of Real-Time Oceanographic Data (QARTOD) flags. In this example, we use QARTOD flags in Data Explorer to rapidly identify a time period of interest and then access those data from ERDDAP.

The Massachusetts Marine Educators Association (MME) 46th Annual Meeting was held at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) on Saturday April 30th. The event, sponsored by WHOI and Woods Hole Sea Grant, provided an opportunity for educators to get together in person, tour WHOI’s facilities, and learn about how ocean and coastal data can be used in the classroom.
WHOI and Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) Engineer Sheri White gave one of the keynote addresses: “The Ocean Observatories Initiative:Collecting Long-Term Coastal and Global Time Series Data.” She followed this with a tour to a group of about 15 people of OOI’s lab and equipment testing and holding area at LOSOS and of some recovered Pioneer Array gear.

WHOI Researcher Stace Beaulieu presented a workshop entitled “Wild Ocean Data: Easily Within Reach.” Her presentation, a tutorial on how to use OOI’s Data Explorer, is available online for those who missed it at https://tinyurl.com/WildOceanData.

Rounding out the day was a presentation by Education Specialist by Annette Brickley, who presented “Is it Data? or Is it Cake?” She talked about the NES-LTER Data Jam and what students can do with NES-LTER and OOI Data.
